Progressive Aboriginal Relations Certification

“Humanity Financial is on a journey to CCAB Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) certification. Every day, our firm works alongside Indigenous organizations and communities to support them in achieving their vision for change. This can’t happen without building economic capacity and capabilities, growing the number of Indigenous financial professionals, and living by the principles of decolonization and reconciliation in their most robust form. PAR provides a credible framework for us to contribute toward creating tangible impact.”

Why we’re committed to PAR

It’s personal.

In 2010, Humanity Financial began working with a law firm client that represented residential school survivors in a class action lawsuit against the Government of Canada. This was only the beginning of our learning as we came to understand the history and the ongoing legacy of colonialism in Canada.

Then, in 2015 the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) released its Final Report along with the 94 Calls to Action for all Canadians. We began to see a fuller picture of how the current colonial structure perpetuates the ongoing subjugation of Indigenous people in Canada.

We are committed to making changes that improve the system. We will take positive, progressive actions, measure outcomes and build on results.

We are committed to better outcomes

Humanity Financial is a Certified B Corp, and we use our business as a force for good – this means wanting something bigger and better for everyone in our society, whether that takes the form of social justice, environmental sustainability, and/or economic reconciliation. For example, TRC Call to Action #92 calls for corporations “to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) as a reconciliation framework and to apply its principles, norms, and standards to corporate policy and core operational activities involving Indigenous peoples and their lands and resources.”

We have adopted UNDRIP as part of our reconciliation journey, and as a reference point for how we do our work moving forward.

We are growing our personal knowledge of the goals that our Indigenous clients, employees, neighbours and stakeholders prioritize. We are changing our business practices to reflect that knowledge. We are taking responsibility and are holding ourselves accountable for transformation.

About Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) Certification

PAR was created by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB). Launched in 2010, PAR remains the only credible certification program with a focus on Indigenous relations in Canada.

PAR certification signals that Humanity Financial is a principled business partner, a great place to work and that we are committed to prosperity in Indigenous communities.

As accountants committed to action and results, we appreciate that this program offers a high level of assurance. PAR companies’ performance is externally verified through Indigenous stakeholder interviews to ensure all sides of the story are heard. Impact is measured at every step of the certification process and beyond.
